Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta LLP Announces the Passing of Co-founder Steve Bickerstaff

We are saddened to announce the passing of the firm’s co-founder and friend Steve Bickerstaff. He passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019 in Austin, Texas.

“Steve was the driving force in founding the firm and probably the best lawyer I have ever known,” said longtime friend, colleague, and firm co-founder Bob Heath. “It was his drive, determination, and skill that caused the firm to prosper and grow. His passing is not only a loss to all who knew him, but also to the legal profession. Steve will be greatly missed by everyone who had the honor and privilege of working with him.”

Considered an expert on redistricting and other election law issues, Steve represented state and local government clients during his 30 plus years in private practice. He was also the author of many publications, perhaps most notably among them, Lines in the Sand: Congressional Redistricting in Texas and the Downfall of Tom DeLay, which chronicles the 2003 Texas redistricting and its aftermath. In addition, Steve wrote and published non-legal texts, including There’s a Bear Right Behind You, a personal story of close encounters with black bears and grizzly bears while hiking in U.S. National Parks.
