BHDA Celebrates 40th Anniversary

Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta LLP, one of the largest firms in Texas devoted extensively to the practice of state and local government law, celebrates 40 years of legal service today.

Originally known as Bickerstaff Heath, the Firm was founded in Austin on September 1, 1980 by Robert S. “Steve” Bickerstaff Jr. and C. Robert “Bob” Heath, two division chiefs from the Office of the Texas Attorney General, who developed a practice extensively devoted to state and local government law. Since then, BHDA has grown by adding senior-level attorneys with practices in litigation, corporate law, water law, and real estate. The Firm has also expanded its presence in Texas with the addition of office locations in El Paso and Houston.

Bob Heath, the Firm’s co-founder said, “It’s hard to believe that 40 years have passed since Steve Bickerstaff and I started the Firm. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to work with so many accomplished lawyers, including Steve Bickerstaff and Myra McDaniel as well as Tom Pollan and Martha Smiley, and numerous staff members who have made our firm successful. And, it goes without saying, but the strong relationships we have developed with our clients has been equally as important to the long-term success of our firm.”

Over the years, the Firm’s attorneys have been frequently sought out as speakers, authors, and experts on subjects including redistricting and voting rights, water law, open meetings/open records, public finance issues, school law, and employment law. They have also received accolades including selection to the Texas Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America© lists. In addition, the Firm has been recognized for its commitment to diversity and inclusion, earning an “A” on the most recent Austin Diversity Report Card, and as a recipient of the U.S. News – Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” designation.

“First of all, we are incredibly grateful for the trust and support from our clients and look forward to working with them for many years to come,” said managing partner Emily Rogers. “The continuous and collective efforts of the entire BHDA team have helped our firm evolve and remain relevant and successful. I believe our commitment to excellence, strong values, and culture benefit everyone involved—our clients and our team members—and that those will be keys to our continued success.”
